It is well designed, slanting enough that it can fit under a cabinet and still provide easy access. The quality is excellent. The price at Amazon was significantly less than other merchants, at the time I purchased, it was easily 40% of the others. It seems to have gone up a little. Always shop around-- I could have paid as much as $170 for this at an upscale online merchant.

The J.K. Adams Joey Slanted Knife Block is the original, first designed in the early 70's when the gourmet cook's tools market in this country was in its infancy. J.K. Adam's goal was to create a cutlery organizer that would hold knives at a low enough angle that they could be easily removed from the block when it was pushed back under a cabinet overhang. The name kangaroo was coined when J.K. Adams added the pouch for steak and paring knives for increased storage capacity. The Joey Slanted Knife Block holds 9 large knife and 8 paring/steak knifes, cleaver, scissors, and steel. J.K. Adams slanted knife blocks were the first and are still the best on the market. Made in the USA of hard Maple.
