I would not recommend this set for any reason.I ordered this set and the one offered by ron popeil for the same price. The Popeil set had more items and was just a more substantial product. My miracle III knives have rust stains and the small chopper is so thin that it is nicked.Plus, the sets were $39.00 when they were made in the USA.Now they are made in china and sell for the same price.Do not be fooled by the wonderful television ad's.the set from popeil is far superior and the same price.

update:10 mar 05.these people are impossible.my knives are RUSTING.stainless steel!!!!!!!!i called miracle blade two months ago.they were going to send me a new set. That was after being cut off 3 times.their computers were down.i called them again the other day and was told their computers were down.finally i called and said i wanted to place an order and it was a miracle, the computers suddenly came up.i finally demanded a supervisor, none available.i was told i would have to pay $29.00 for the warranty.i laughed.i had to pay $14.99 for shipping.they are just sleezy.look into sharpkut II.they are great knives.i have had one for twenty years.i thought that miracle blade was the same company.NOT.sharpkut II knives are made in the USA and don't rust.trust me.stay away from miracle blade.

Cook at Home Cutlery Set, 15 Piece

I bought these knives back in October and they started rusting almost immediately. If you allow them to soak before washing or let them air dry, they will most definitely rust. You must wash and dry these knives immediately after using to minimize rust.
Although I'm disappointed that my knives are already rusting, I'm not too upset or surprised since I didn't spend a lot for them. If you're looking for a cheap knife set they're not bad, but if you expect to have nice knives for years, this is not what you're looking for.
For the price, they're really not bad, but unless you're broke, spend a little more and get something that will last.

The ergonomic handles are great for me, but for this kind of investment you should probably visit a local store to test them out first. You can rest assured that the Henckels blades are some of the highest quality made, but if you don't like the way the knife feels in your hand then a great blade won't compensate.I did 'test' a variety of Henckels ergonomic knives before deciding on these and I haven't been disappointed.

After searching stores looking for a knife set I began researching online.I found this set and was a bit reluctant. They didn't come with a knife block, they didn't have wooden handles, and the brand wasn't ringing a bell. But they were rated so highly, and the comments so positive, I decided to take a chance. They are AMAZING!Manufactured by the company that makes Swiss Army Knives, they are beautifully made. These three knives will do virtually anything you need done in the kitchen, so you don't really need more knives. They have excellent weight, good balance, and the grip feels ergonomic. While priced at the low end for good knives, you feel you are using the Mercedes of knives. This is a great set for anyone who loves cooking or quality. And as an aside, I was happy to have to find an alternative to the knife block.I got a strip magnet, and it is so much better!

Product Description:
From the inventors of the famous Swiss Army knife comes a line of fine cutlery designed for accomplished and aspiring chefs at work or in the home. Each blade in the Stamped collection is expertly made in Switzerland from high-carbon stainless steel and undergoes a special tempering process for an edge that can be resharpened again and again. The result is a knife that can keep its original sharpness throughout the entire life of the blade. Each blade is conical ground throughout its length and depth, and laser tested to ensure optimum cutting power and durability. Ergonomically designed to minimize wrist tension, the unique, patented Fibrox handles are molded for maximum comfort and durability. Plus, all Stamped cutlery with Fibrox handles is approved by the NSF (National Sanitary Foundation). Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of these handles minimize crevices that may otherwise offer hospitality to bacteria. The Victorinox Stamped collection is an extensive range with open-stock pieces as well as handy and versatile sets.
This set of three knives makes an excellent gift for the home chef. The 4-inch paring knife adeptly manages most fruit and vegetable peeling, cutting, and garnishing; the 8-inch slicing knife carves the Thanksgiving turkey and other roasts; and the large 10-inch chef's knife tackles a multitude of kitchen chopping, mincing, and slicing tasks. All Stamped cutlery should be washed by hand for best care, and Victorinox covers each piece with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.
What's in the Box
4-inch paring knife,8-inch slicer, 10-inch chef's knife.
From the Manufacturer
Who is Victorinox?
Although Victorinox is known the world over as the creator of the Original Swiss Army Knife, the company started out in 1884 as a cutlery workshop. By the time company creator Karl Elsener delivered his first pocket knife to the Swiss Army, his cutlery business was already booming. Over the next century, Victorinox cutlery became a top-rated choice among professionals worldwide, with over 300 blades to offer.
Victorinox knives have regularly appeared as highly ranked and recommended kitchen tools in Cook's Illustrated, Men's Health, The Cincinnati Enquirer, New York Magazine, and Natural Health, just to name a few. In 2009, the company announced a partnership with professional chef, Daniel Humm, of Eleven Madison Park in New York City. In addition, building on the success of its cutlery business, Victorinox has brought all the same quality and expertise to a wider range of products and accessories, including other kitchen tools, pocket tools, watches, luggage, and clothing.
Who is R.H. Forschner?
Victorinox had been a staple in European commercial cutlery for over 50 years when approached by New York's R.H. Forschner, known since 1855 as a builder of scales for butchers, to be their sole cutlery supplier. The two companies joined forces in 1937, and R.H. Forschner subsequently became North America's dominant professional brand, as ubiquitous in the bustling meatpacking plants of the Midwest as it is in the gleaming, four-star restaurant kitchens of Midtown Manhattan.
As a division of Victorinox/Swiss Army Brands, R.H. Forschner marketed cutlery under the brand name "RH Forschner by Victorinox" and distributed to the commercial, food service, and retail trade classes. That brand has been considered a top choice of professionals worldwide with over 300 styles of blades bearing the R.H. Forschner name. However, in 2009, in conjunction with Victorinox's 125th anniversary, the company, Victorinox Swiss Army, Inc., has decided to remove the "RH Forschner" name from all blades. Blades thenceforth only include the "Victorinox" name.
What is a stamped blade?
A stamped knife can usually be identified by the absence of a bolster. Stamped blades are cut into their shapes from cold-rolled pieces of steel and then ground, tempered, and sharpened. Creating them requires many less steps than forging and results in lighter, narrower blades. Some professionals prefer the thicker, heavier forged blades, but many pros, who spend much of their day cutting and slicing, enjoy a lighter knife since it's less fatiguing and easier to manipulate at speed.
Stamped knives are easier to produce and therefore less expensive. They perform very well and can approach the quality of a forged blade, but not the weight or feel. Victorinox manufactures a complete range of stamped blades with unique, patented Fibrox handles and they are considered among the greatest values in the knife industry.
What knives do I need to own?
Knife choice or selection is determined by many factors--size, function, style, and preference. The most important factor is function. Different knives have different uses. It is important to use the proper knife for a specific task, since proper knife selection and the use of a proper-sized, sharp knife make for safe cutting. General kitchen tasks and the knife to use for them are as follows:
Paring: The most common to own and use, a paring knife is generally for small cutting jobs and peeling of vegetables or fruit. The blade size is usually from three to four inches. Choose the shape and size to fit your hand. Since this is one of the more versatile knives, owning more than one is recommended.
Chef's: The most important tool and essential to every cook, a chef‘s knife is most often used in a rocking method to mince, dice, and chop vegetables and herbs. This one is known as the chef's best friend.
Slicer: Most commonly used to slice meats, poultry, and seafood, the slicer is an important companion to any host or hostess.
Boning: As its name suggests, a boning knife is used to trim or remove meat and fish from the bone.
Bread: Designed with a special edge, a bread knife makes easy work of cutting through crusty bread, pastries, or any item with a crust and a soft interior.
Fillet: Most often used by pros and seasoned home chefs, the fillet knife is used to fillet meat and fish.
Cleaver: An important addition to any collection, a cleaver is often used to cut or chop through bones.
Santoku: This knife combines the features of a cleaver with a chef's knife. The curved blade helps the rocking motion used for chopping, and the wide blade works well for scooping sliced food off a cutting board and for crushing garlic. The santoku can also be used to slice meat and has a narrow spine for making thin cuts.
Utility: An all-purpose knife often referred to as a sandwich knife, the utility knife peels and slices fruits and vegetables, and even carves small meats.
Shaping: With its curved blade, a shaping knife is great for small precision cuts where control is essential, such as peeling, trimming, or garnishing.
What are the different knife edges and what do they do?
Straight: The vast majority of Victorinox knives come with a straight or fine edge. This means it has a perfect taper along the blade and no serrations. It is designed to cut without tearing or shredding.
Serrated: An edge designed with small, jagged teeth along the edge.
Scalloped: A blade with waves along the edge generally used to cut breads with a hard crust and soft interior, as well as tougher-skinned fruits and vegetables.
Granton: This edge has hollowed-out grooves or dimples on the sides of the blade. These grooves fill with the fat and juices of the product being cut, allowing for thin, even cuts without tearing. Even with the grooves, these are still straight-edge knives and can be honed with a sharpening steel.
How should I care for my cutlery?
After use, knives should not be allowed to soak in water. The best practice is to hand wash and dry them immediately. This is especially true if they have been used on fruit or salty foods, which may cause some staining, even on stainless steel. Most knives require very little maintenance and it is worth the effort to protect your investment.
Though Victorinox knives are dishwasher safe, this is strongly discouraged. The dishwasher's agitation may cause damage. Additionally, harsh detergents can be harmful and cause pitting and spotting on the blades. The handles may also discolor and develop a white film with constant use of the dishwasher. Plus, intense heat associated with dishwashers is not good for the temper of the blade.
How do I keep my knives sharp?
All quality knives require proper maintenance to keep them in perfect cutting shape. The best of edges will quickly dull if it strikes metal, glass, or Formica. A wooden cutting board makes the best cutting surface. And, if a slip occurs, a proper cutting board is safer for the user. Frequent use of a Victorinox sharpening steel will keep blades in tip top working condition. All straight-edge knives need steeling to keep their edges.

How to "Steel" a Knife
1. Hold the steel firmly in your left hand with the guard positioned to stop the blade should it slip.
2. Hold the knife in your right hand and place on top part of steel as shown.
3. Raise back of blade one-eighth inch.
4. Now, moving the blade only, draw it across the steel in an arching curve, pivoted at your wrist. The blade tip should leave the steel about two-thirds of the way down.
5. Repeat the same action with the Blade on the bottom side of the steel. Always maintain the same pressure and angle on both sides of the steel.
6. Repeat five or six times.
When a sharpening steel no longer does the job, it's time to take the knife to a qualified knife sharpener who will place a new edge on it. This, along with use of the sharpening steel, will give you many years of sharp, safe blades.
Please note that electric knife sharpeners can be harmful. They have to be used carefully as they remove too much metal, can harm the temper of the blade, and most important can change the factory-applied edge angle.
How should I store my knives?
Safety is the biggest concern of storage, both to the user and to protect the knife's edge. Choices include a knife magnet, knife block, drawer insets, and also individual knife protectors.

I got this set for my mom for Christmas. She is a "cook", no t a chef, so the knives are fine for her purposes. Better than what she had. The biggest disappointment was the wood handles, I don't know if they were not treated or what, but right out of the box they were dry and rough. They felt like they would give you splinters. My mom put some oil on them and it helped, but had I seen the handles as they were before purchase, I probably would not have purchased them. Or at least made the handles more presentable myself. But - I paid $25 for them and can't really complain too much.

J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet 18-Piece Block Set Review

J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet 18-Piece Block Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned the 18-Piece Henckels Gourmet Knife Set for about 1 year now.I purchased these with some wedding gift certificates that we got when I got married last year. This was an upgrade from a decent Faberware set that I had been using for the 4 years prior.Anyway, this set comes with 18 pieces:

8-inch chef's knife
8-inch carving knife
8-inch bread knife
6-inch chef's knife
6-inch boning/utility knife
5-inch serrated utility knife
3-inch paring knife
eight (8) 4 1/4-inch steak knives
9-inch sharpening steel
8-inch kitchen shears
hardwood storage block

Let me clear up the confusion for the people that don't know...there are actually two Henckels brands."Henckels International" is the more economical brand, not to be confused with the "Zwilling JA Henckels" brand which is the premium brand.Same manufacturer, different grades of metal, location of construction and quality. You can tell the difference by the look of the logo...the cheaper "International" brand has the one tribal man on the logo, whereas the "Zwilling" brand has twin tribal men on the logo.

The "Gourmet" line is the least expensive of the higher premium sets from the Zwilling JA Henckels brand. It is not forged steel. The blade is stamped. However, the quality is much better than the Henckels International brand of stamped knives. The blade stays sharp for longer periods of use. However, it is probably comparable to the top of the line Henckels International Classic FORGED set. That being said, the price point is about the same for the same number of knives, so it makes sense. The highest end Henckels forged set is the "Professional S" or "Pro S" which costs $200 more than the "Gourmet" for an 18-piece set.Keep in mind that the 8 steak knives from the Pro S line are the same ones that come with the Gourmet line, so you know they are a great quality set.

As a relatively affordable premium set of knives, I have used these knives almost every day since their arrival.I've had to sharpen on occassion, but that's normal. All non-serated knives, you will need to sharpen and hone fairly frequently. (Or at least more frequently than a lot more expensive forged sets.) I do it once every few months with the knives that I use frequently and about once a year for the ones that only get used on occasion. But I also do a lot of cutting with them, so the frequency will depend on how often you use them for cutting tough foods. I cook a lot of meats, including cutting up my own chicken, so that dulls the knives rather quickly. If all you cut are veggies, then your knives won't dull as quickly. That being said, my knives still look and feel as if they are brand new. They are great!!!

They are dishwasher safe, but I don't recommend it because the dishwasher will dull all knives. However, occasionally I toss them in the dishwasher if I have a million things to wash after a dinner party and haven't had any problems.

P.S. I wanted a Santoku knife to add to this collection because I cut a lot of fish for sashimi and sushi. After a lot of examination, I decided to NOT get the Gourmet santoku because it did not have a hollow edge and I wanted a forged knife.I ended up splurging and purchased a Wusthof Classic Hollow Edge Santoku to complete this set.Yes, I know I'm supposed to buy the same Henckels brand for loyalty reasons, but as far as Santoku knives were concerned, I liked the feel and style of the Wustof better. It was a debate between the Henckels Pro S Hollow Edge or the Wusthof Classic Hollow Edge because they were in the same price range and the Wusthof knife won by a hair.

Yeah, I purchased these knives from Ronco, not amazon but since I always shop here and look for reviews here I just want you people not to waste your hard earned money. Here's my short review. All of the knives contain the following:
1.The Handles are all cheap plastic, by cheap I mean eventually it will
chip off or break.
2. The blades themselves are nicely polished. But every single blade in
my 25 piece set is DULL. Perhaps this is why they supply you with a
knife sharpener. I can run the blade across my skin.
3. Oh yeah, The pointy end of all the knives are also dull. Once again I
I can run it against my skin without injury. Yet they slice and dice
everything on the infomercial.
4. The whole kit is made in China, We all know what some of the quality
is like from some of their products.
5. If you buy these direct, they rape you on shipping. It cost us [...]
to ship it here to my home. The knives were [...]. I am going to send
these back ASAP so now is gonna cost another [...]! A total RIP
OFF! Learn from my stupid mistake, and don't bother doing business with RONCO.

J.A. Henckels 8 Piece Stylus Block Set Review

J.A. Henckels 8 Piece Stylus Block Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This J.A. Henckels 8 Piece Stylus Block Set is a decent set at an excellent price, but do read the specs carefully before you order so that you're not surprised. This set has a modern appearance due to the stainless steel handles, and those have a nice ergonomic feel. But these are not the "Made in Solingen, Germany" like the Four Star, Five Star, Pro "S" (and others), which are forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel. These knives are made in China from stamped stainless steel, as indicated in the specs.

An explanation: J.A. Henckels has two distinct brands. The "Zwilling J.A. Henckels" brand is known as "The Premium Brand," with products that are mainly made in Germany (mostly forged blades) or Spain (for mid-range knives, forged or stamped). The "J.A. Henckels International" brand is "The Value Brand" division that produces less costly, mostly stamped blade knives, often made in China or Taiwan.

If you're looking for some top-of-the line German-made knives from J.A. Henckels, check out the J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star Cutlery, or perhaps the J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 7-Piece Knife Block Set.

Please understand that this is not a put down on this J.A. Henckels 8 Piece Stylus Block Set, which in some ways is better than some other knives crafted in Germany, for the Henckels quality is still there. Just don't be surprised to see the blades marked "Made in China."

CIA Masters Collection 24305 Cutlery Drawer Storage Review

I researched many different knife drawers, blocks, and magnetic strips before choosing this exceptional knife drawer.

With a knife block, your knives get dusty, and you can't clean out the deep crevasses. With a magnetic strip, you have to worry about placement of the strip and whether children might have access to the knives, plus there is some debate on whether a magnetic strip is a good idea for knife storage.

This knife drawer holds all of my Komachi knives with room to spare. It fits nicely in my very narrow kitchen drawer - its measurements are 17 1/2" deep x 7 1/2" wide x 1 3/4" high - and is made of 100% bamboo.

Unlike some inferior knife drawers, your knives rest on bamboo, not on metal or felt. This knife drawer is part of the Masters Collection, which was created by Certified Master Chefs from the Culinary Institute of America. It is a beautiful, well-crafted piece that you will enjoy for years to come. It also has a lifetime warranty.

Highly recommended.
